The curve models killing it at SS21 Fashion Shows

The SS21 Fashion Shows were groundbreaking in many ways. In particular, this year saw many high-fashion brands showcasing curve models for the very first time. Brands such as Ferragamo, Fendi, Christian Cowan, Versace and Jacquemus featured models from a greater body diversity than ever before.

Take a look at some of the curve models who were part of these incredible shows. 

Paloma Elsesser 

Paloma has been featured in a number of brands' campaigns and shows recently including Fendi, Ferragamo, and even Dior. She posted on her Instagram:

"What a stupendous honor to be the first chunky to walk @ferragamo ~ a lot of feelings emerging from such a sorrowful yet expansive 6 months. i struggle to celebrate myself in a cognitive way; often rendering accomplishments as ‘fine’ but as a dear friend once said it “you must find ways to be good in the good”... so here i am, proud and excited for the future of fashion to see the value and importance of representation in a real, hopefully; cognitive way."

Although this isn't Ashley Grahams first high-fashion runway, she again dazzled this year walking for brands like Fendi and Etro.

Jari Jones

The incredible transgender model, actress and activist Jari Jones featured for Christian Cowan - check out that hair!

Jari Jones has been leading the way in the modelling world for not only the curve community, but also the transgender community for some time. She said on her Instagram back in June 2020:

"It has been such an honor and pleasure to sit in my most authentic self and present imagery of a body that far to often has been demonized, harassed, made to feel ugly and unworthy and even killed. I present this image ,myself and all that my body stands for to my community and chosen family, in hope that they see themselves more clearly than ever and further realize that they are worthy of celebration , of compassion , of love and gratitude."

Although the industry still has a long way to go to reach true body diversity and equal representation, this shift was a refreshing and empowering change for the fashion world - and shows us that the future is really (really) bright.
