It's September 2020 and if there was ever a time for us to know how to do things from home then it's now #isolife. Unlike many other skills, modelling is something that can be learnt and practised from home. You don't need anything fancy and many of the resources you need are right at your fingertips.
So, the question then is how do you get started? How exactly do you train to be a model at home?
Although there are millions of ways to get started, we've narrowed it down to just 4...
If you're not already, it's important that you get comfortable with looking at yourself in the mirror. When you are training to become a model, looking at yourself and working out what angles work best for you is going to be vital.
If you're not sure how to get started here, what we would recommend is to find around 5 photos of models doing poses that you really love.
Once you have them, set yourself up in front of your mirror and try to replicate the poses. Pay close attention to your body position, your
facial expression, and your overall posture.
Once you've perfected all 5 poses, see if you can move around in each pose to create more of a flow of poses. If you do this with each pose
and create about 5 new poses you will end up with around 25-30 poses in total which you can then use in a photoshoot! Win!
That's right, you heard us correctly - it's time to take a selfie or two (or a thousand). Taking selfies is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and learn what works best for you.
We would recommend avoiding using filters as they will distort your photo and won't help you when you get to a photoshoot.

Try taking 10 selfies each 2 seconds apart. Each one of them needs to be a little bit different. Then, take a look back through them and
review what you love and what you don't love so much. Do it again until you love all 10 photos!
Girl it's time to practise that catwalk. Go find your favourite shoes (heels or flats whatever works for you). Then, chuck on your favourite song (we love RuPaul's Cover Girl) and get walking! If you need a quick how-to on catwalking check out our Catwalking like a Queen guide here.
For extra inspo check out RuPaul's legendary catwalk here...
If you dedicate 5-10 minutes every day to perfecting your catwalk you're going to be walking like a pro in no time!
When you're feeling ready, it's a good idea to get some feedback from someone else. This could be a family member or a close friend. Show them some poses (get them to take some photos while you're at it) and give them a little catwalk show.
They'll be able to give you their opinion on what is looking awesome and what you could work on.
